DISTINGUISHED NORTHERNERS CONFERRED WITH HONORARY DEGREES BY TRINITY COLLEGE DUBLIN

Former Court of Appeal justice Sir Donnell Deeny and Irish language activist Linda Ervine have been conferred with honorary degrees by Trinity College Dublin.

The pair were among just four people recognised with honorary degrees, which were handed to them by Trinity Chancellor Mary McAleese at the ceremony in the university’s Public Theatre last Friday.

Sir Donnell was named an honorary doctor of law while Ms Ervine was named doctor of letters. Businessman and philanthropist Dermot Smurfitt and Professor Moira O’Brien, the first female professor in Trinity’s School of Medicine, were also honoured.
